Summer Has Started

So summer is upon us. The chill is gone from the air. I’m sad and glad, both at the same time. I don’t like the cold, but I despise the 100+ degree temperatures that we have to endure here every year. I really wish I lived in a climate where it didn’t get over about 85 but did get around 60 in the evenings. I just think it’s better for the body than the extremes we deal with here.

Today it was over 90 degrees. It’s May 25. That can only mean one thing: that July and August are going to be most miserable. And, since I can’t really take any time off in July, this summer is really going to suck, I fear.

We are moving folks into the new building the whole month of July. We will have to deal with it the whole month, and I’m certain that I will be required to be up there a lot of weekends. This does not make me very happy. I hate it when I hear someone whining about having to be up there for one day extra because I just want to shout back: “At least you don’t have to do it all the time!”, but I don’t of course.

I like being outside, but I hate the sweaty feeling I get when it’s just too darned hot. I can’t imagine working somewhere where it’s hot like summer all the time. I mean, I know the body would get accustomed to it after a while, but yucky. This sunmer, though, it will be a bit better. No tours, for one thing, and I’m most happy about that. I hated doing those when it was so freaking hot last summer, especially when the building wasn’t yet air conditioned.

And, I hate mosquitoes, too. They are like Arkansas’ bonus gift of summer.
