July 28, 2014, Pompeii I'm actually writing this entry the day after we visited Pompeii because I might have had a bit too much wine last night to write about that adventure. Plus I was starving when we got back to the boat yesterday. Upon the advice of a former traveler and the tour book, …

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggidy Jig
August 2, 2014, 11:57am, Barcelona Airport, on the Runway We are headed home. Me sitting again in Business Class while my Sweetie sits just behind me in a bulkhead seat. At least we are close together, no? We are like 123rd in line for take off, I think, since we have been sitting here for …
Small Bills, Please
August 2, 2014, 17:44, over the Gulf of Mexico Yesterday, we had the great opportunity to see what happens when travel goes about haywire. We were waiting to get off the ship, when the overhead announcer said that there was a taxi strike going on in Barcelona all day. For those who have never been …
Tommy the Worldly Turtle
July 31, 2014, 21:00 or thereabouts, in the Med I have a turtle. He was a gift from Sweetie during the worst part of studying for the bar exam last year. He has traveled more in his short life than I did my first 33 years. His name is Tommy. He has both a Twitter …
Coastal Cruising
July 26, 2014, 21:19, Marseille, France (or there about) We set sail this afternoon from France after a day of sand, sea, and fun. We sat outside for the sail away, which is thankfully much less of a party on this ship as compared to others. So far, I am an MSC fan. Did I …
The MSC Splendida
Friday, July 25, 2014, 13:25 Barcelona We are aboard! As is typical, we arrived at the port early. Boarding time was posted as 14:00, but we usually just sort of nicely ignore that and show up early. Either one of two things happens. We either are able to get on the ship early, which happens …
An Hour Not Wasted
January 1, 2013, 16:07 CST, Navarre Beach, Florida This afternoon, after several fairly gloomy and overcast days, the sun broke through the lingering storm clouds and peered its head around to say hello. It warmed the sand up on which my beach tent sat, warmed face, and cheered my soul. I sat for a whole …
To Formal or Not to Formal
January 7, 2013 18:06, in the Caribbean On every cruise, they have at least one formal night, or at least on the cruises on which we have traveled. Sometimes there is more than one formal night, depending on the length of the cruise. This one, with 7 nights, has two formal nights. Every cruise before …
Being a Mom at 40

Being a mom at 40 means, for me anyway, that I have a grown child living on his own, not with me anymore. Sometimes this makes me sad, but most of the time, I'm very proud that I gave him whatever he needed to be able to leave home and be on his own. This photo is of my son, Ken, me, and his girlfriend, McKinsey last Christmas. Ken is now 21, and I am very proud to be his mom. He is a smart, funny (hilarious really), talented guy who will do great in life. He moved out almost two years ago, not too long after he graduated high school. He's in college and works at a restaurant here in town, so I get to go by occasionally and bother him about cooking. It is a bit scary that the same kid who couldn't (or didn't want to) make his own cheese sandwiches for years now cooks for people professionally. It's pretty funny. We went to eat there several weeks ago, and I ordered a ch
