I LOVE Halloween. I mean, name one other day on which I get to dress up in my tutu, crown, mask, wearing all the gaudy jewelry I can find, and hand out candy to little kids dressed up in the cutest costumes?!? I absolutely love the holiday. It is, by far, my very favorite day of the year, even more so than Christmas or even my birthday. I have missed the last 4, really, by being in law school, although last year I was able to get home in time to hand out quite a bit of candy, all while wearing my crown and carrying my scepter. I mean, a princess has to do what a princess has to do, and I had to leave class at break so that I wouldn’t miss the fun.
I have so many good memories of Halloween. I dressed up once, at about 15 years old, as a pumpkin. It seems like I stuffed the body with magazines or something, and either me or my Mom sewed the costume. I dressed up as a princess at work one year. I used to love getting my son’s costume together, and even when we had no money, he still got a costume. The least expensive one every ($2) was a mummy, and he won the costume contest at his school. I bought an old sheet or something and ripped it up to make the mummy wrappings. There was only one problem – he couldn’t use the restroom for hours. But, he made it through the whole evening pretty well and won the prize. How cool is that!
I made him a Batman costume once, and he was a storm trooper one year. I just loved it. I still do. I wish, at 22, he’d still find it fun. But, kids grow up. I guess it’s up to me to carry on the tradition – drats.
Tonight, I carry on the time honored tradition and am enjoying every single minute. I may have to just go stand outside to bring more customers into my trick-or-treat palace! Love every minute of it.
