Today is the last day of my 30s. In less than 12 hours I will be 40. That sounds really old.
I am in St. Thomas today, in the Caribbean. I simply cannot think of anywhere else I’d rather be today, on the last of my 30s. An island, in the tropics, having a nice cold drink, at the top of Paradise Point.
I used to think that I would feel really old when I turned 40. My mom seemed old when she turned 40, although I’m not sure why really. Looking back now, with her at 62, it doesn’t seem to be nearly 20 years.
Looking out over the bay here, I am thankful that I have come to this point in my life. I am thankful that I am not with someone who didn’t really love me, I am thankful that I am with someone who does. I am thankful to be sitting here in this idyllic place, far away from the cares and concerns of everyday life. I am thankful that I am lucky enough to be celebrating my 40th birthday at sea.
