It’s Just “Jersey”, No Need for the “New”

Okay. To people from the South, if states have two names, a la “New Jersey”, both names are used. Apparently this doesn’t apply to Jersey when one is in NYC.

I’ve known this. I just had not really experienced it before now. Everyone just says “Jersey”, and they usually say it with a sneer. It’s definitely not a term of endearment.

So we are on the freeway, going about 10mph in heavy traffic, coming from LGA to midtown. We are about to go over the Triboro Bridge, which I suppose, without much background in this arena, means it connects three of the borroughs. I’m not really sure.

The one thing I’m pretty sure it doesn’t connect to, though, is Jersey.
