Sidewalk Cafe

Wednesday, July 23, 2014, 17:55, Barcelona

Sitting in a sidewalk cafe, in the streets of Barcelona. An ancient city in its own right, it is quite metropolitan as we sit here watching people walk by. On the Rambla, there are thousands. Not crowded like one would believe, basically because there is so much room for both traffic and people. Amazing how the city is laid out. Designed for a certain purpose yet very old, for the dawn before the automobile. Much better than some American cities now adding bike lanes to only crowd traffic and detract from the streets’ ability to actually handle the crowds.

There is such a mix of nationalities here. Mostly Spanish-speaking people’s with Japanese, German, English (as in The Queen’s), and a bit of American. It is truly an eclectic place.

I am in love.

Europe, so far, is the stuff of my dreams. The stuff you see in tourist magazines. The stuff you hear about from fellow travelers. I find myself speaking Spanish when I don’t really know what I’m saying.

This is an adventure. I love every minute of it.
