The Accidental Researcher

Somehow, last night, I accidentally skipped class. Yes, it was an accident. Yes, I read for class. Yes, I did the homework problems. No, I was not skipping just to skip. I truly and wholeheartedly meant to attend but also truly accidentally skipped.

How does this happen, you ask?  Well it starts with me having a schedule that is completely different than any schedule I have had over the past three years. For the first time, I get out of class at 7pm three nights a week, while the one other night I get out at 9pm, the latter being typical for part time night law students. This semester, I only lacked seven hours of class, so I only took what I had to have to graduate. It ended up being only two “real” classes, i.e., classes that you take every week, and one class on only one weekend. The latter happened to be this past weekend, so I am placing some of the blame for my accidental miss on that class, as I go  very little sleep this past weekend.

The other reason for the accidental skip was that I really thought class started at 7. I have no idea why, other than the fact that the same class starts at 7on Monday’s.

The final and best reason was that I was somewhat caught up in a research project I am doing for a professor. I was reading an article on the subject matter and just got lost in it somehow. I guess, at least, that tells me that it is interesting, huh?

I looked at my clock on my phone around 6:18 and realized that I was already almost 20 minutes late. There was no way I was going to walk into class that late ans embarrass myself or have  to explain to the professor why I was so late.

So, for the first time that I can remember, I somehow unpurposefully skipped class. Wow. Maybe it is just older age setting in!
