I Wanna Be Katy Perry When I Grow Up

Okay, so maybe I’m already grown up, but I’d still like to be Katy Perry.  She just seems like she has such fun.  My life – boring comparatively.

I’m in law school.  I get almost giddy toward the end of the semester as that’s when I get time to actually do something that doesn’t involve reading about felony-murder statutes or writing papers or worrying about getting called on in class to the point of reading every single assignment that they give us.  So, right now is a good time to be me, since there are only 10 days, 1 hour, 30 minutes, and 36 seconds left this semester. Yes, it’s a good time to be a law student if your only final of the semester occurs on the first day of finals – finally!  Most semesters my finals go down to the last day of the semester, which stinks.  The earlier the finals are over, the more break time I get.  I think I deserve as much as possible, since this is my 7th semester, counting summer school.  With three semesters (4 counting summer) left for this part-time student, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I’ll only have 23 hours left after the spring semester is over.  Do I really want to be a serious lawyer?  I want to have fun.  I think working in Florida would be good since it’s in the fun and sun and there is a beach.  I could be a beach bartender/lawyer, which is my dream occupation.  I’m down with it.  Totally.

In the meantime, I’ve been listening to Katy sing all afternoon, while writing a settlement agreement for one class, researching a felony-murder statute for another with which to write a paper, and thinking of the time that I can just listen to music and not do anything else at all.  Some days I’d like to live in an apartment somewhere where there is no yardwork, you have neighbors who change from time to time, and you don’t have the responsibilities of today.  I remember those days.  Back then, I would have given anything to own my own home.  I wanted to do yard work.  I wanted to plant flowers.  Now, I am older and wiser.  I’d prefer a loft apartment in the middle of downtown with no yard work and no worries.  Ah…we will be there soon.

And…when we are, I can be Katy Perry.
